Project R.O.W. is an acronym for Recovery on Wheels. This program utilizes a mobile medication unit to provide methadone/suboxone detoxification and maintenance. The unit is specially outfitted to provide medical evaluation and dispensing of methadone/suboxone. It includes a doctor's exam room, medication dispensing area, lab station, case management area, lavatory and patient waiting area. The bus is supported by office based services with counseling and case management for opiate drug users.

Community collaboration and the benefits of the mobile medication unit are paramount to providing optimal wrap around substance abuse treatment for Syringe Exchange Program (SEP) participants. Project R.O.W. provides treatment services at no fee to eligible clients.

What does the Program consist of?

Project ROW is an innovative approach to improving accessibility of treatment to IV opiate addicts. The program consists of the dispensing of methadone or suboxone for detox or maintenance purposes via a bus in the community. The clients who are receivng this medication are also attending group and individual counseling at our site on Pacific Avenue in Atlantic City.
Through the Needle Exchange Treatment Iniative (NETI) clients are also given  access to other treatment modalities such as long term residential treatment, detox for medically complicated issues, intensive outpatient and out patient.

Eligibility requirements for participation in R.O.W.
  • Clients must be 18 years or older.
  • Opiate drug users.
  • Clients must not currently be in drug treatment.
  • Must not have been in treatment during the past thirty days with a private physician or treatment center  except fo  a Detox.
  • Must meet low income eligibility and not have insurance.

Priority Treatment:
  • Referrals from Needle exchange
  • Pregnant intravenous opiate drug users (IDU)
  • HIV+  IDU opiate users
