JBRC is now offering new Contingency Management program at its outpatient facilities.

Mays Landing, NJ – John Brooks Recovery Center (JBRC) has received a $400,000 grant for Contingency Management and Other Strategies for the Treatment of Stimulant Use Disorders from the State of New Jersey Department of Human Services (DHS), Division of Mental Health and Addiction Services (DMHAS). The grant is being funded through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration’s (SAMHSA) State Opioid Response to Grants (SOR).

According to the DHS, New Jersey data indicates that the use of stimulants has increased dramatically in the state from 2016 to 2019. In particular, cocaine admissions as either a primary, secondary or tertiary drug, increased 142 percent, crack increased 171 percent and methamphetamine increased 416 percent. Across these three stimulants, there were 28,037 admissions in 2018. Since there is a high risk of overdose with opioids and fentanyl, individuals with substance use disorder (SUD) are now seeking stimulants and methamphetamine, which are readily available.

JBRC is one of five grant recipients in the state. The funds have enabled JBRC to create a Contingency Management program for stimulant use disorder at its outpatient facilities in Atlantic City and Pleasantville.

“Contingency management is the most effective intervention for stimulant use disorders and is validated by scientific research,” said Michael Santillo, CEO of John Brooks Recovery Center.

All patients admitted into the program will take part in an incentivized approach to stimulant use disorders treatment, which includes cognitive behavioral therapy and other traditional SUD approaches. “We will be partnering with Dynamicare Health, an innovative company that utilizes an app to track patients in their journey by providing monetary rewards for negative drug testing and compliance with a wide array of treatment interventions,” said Santillo. “It is an evidence-based, cutting-edge solution that encourages incentive-based behavioral change.”
